Lloyds TSB
When Lloyds TSB asked us to come and look at the three shallow pools outside their offices, we found a site that was in need of serious care and attention. The pools were bleak-looking, strewn with litter and lacking in any plants or fish. There was also a significant issue with filamentous algae, which wasn’t being successfully combated by the existing filtration system.
The first thing we did was to heavily plant the pools with Elodea crispa (an oxygenator) plus water hawthorn and lots of red, white and yellow water lilies. Apart from looking beautiful and increasing the biodiversity value of the pools these also compete with the algae for nutrients and light. In addition we fitted a copper dosing system (which kills filamentous algae) to the filtration, stocked the pools with Golden Orfe to give life and movement, and put in a floating duck house for ducks to nest in.
Since then, we have continued to maintain the ponds to a consistently high standard – monitoring them closely, dealing with minor issues quickly and efficiently, litter picking and servicing the copper dosing. As a result, the fish have thrived and bred, the water is crystal-clear, and ducks come to nest every year.
