This Inverleith garden in Edinburgh is the one passers-by can see from the Water of Leith Walkway and as a result it is very well known among Edinburgh dog walkers and residents. It is also the garden which won us the coveted Grand Award at the 2009 BALI Awards Ceremony, a moment we will never forget! The garden was very much a collaborative effort and much of the credit for it goes to the wonderful creative clients. We also had a great team working there which included Kevin Clark, Sam Lowndes and Stefano Vincentelli amongst others. It includes a natural swimming pond (in which the clients swim everyday), a series of substantial sandstone retaining walls and steps, fine compacted gravel paths edged with rebar (woven reinforcing bars used in the construction industry) which culminate in a curving garden structure with grass roof which houses the garden’s composting facilities. In the front garden we constructed a cascade and laid the extensive lawns. The client’s beautiful and inspiring planting around the pond and in the woodland garden make this a very special place indeed and yearly open days are always a huge success. In 2016 we added an additional path to the garden and were delighted to see how the original paths and structures are still in great shape almost ten years on.
