In September 2020 the Glasgow Science Centre approached us with a request to improve the existing shallow concrete ponds that wrap round the building. These had always presented a maintenance problem. The Centre was to host part of the COP26 Climate Change Conference in 2021 and asked for a design that would chime with the conference and reduce the maintenance burden.
Water Gems came up with a wetland and boardwalk design that met with the Centre’s approval. We were then commissioned to build and plant it before the conference opened in November 2021.
The project has been a great success in terms of biodiversity gains, aesthetics and reducing maintenance.
