Completed in 2016, this ambitious and hugely rewarding Dunfermline garden project involved the careful blending of the existing garden structures with a new design by Carolyn Grohmann.
The existing, sloping garden included a very large cedar greenhouse, traditional herringbone brick paths edged with Victorian rope edgings, extensive lawn areas and an overgrown ‘grotto’. We built a vast formal water feature, restored the grotto (trying hard not to disturb any magical creatures living there), created new herbaceous and shrub borders, installed arbours, fruit cages, stone raised beds, structures for espalier fruit trees, provided garden lighting and renewed the top terrace and driveway surfaces.
The end result is an impressive, elegant garden with a strong sense of its Victorian roots and it earned us a jubilant ‘high five’ from its very happy owner.
